Filing an election complaint

The Secretary of State may inspect and review the practices and procedures of county clerk and recorders, their employees, and other election officials in the conduct of primary, general, and congressional vacancy elections and the registration of electors.  [1]

Examples of election law violations include:

A voter was not allowed to:

• Vote in secret
• Turn in my absentee ballot
• Ask questions or ask for assistance
• Vote, even though he or she was standing in line before the polls closed
• Vote after he or she made a mistake

A voter was unable to vote because he or she wasn't given assistance:

• To accommodate his or her disability
• In his or her own language

A voter observed:

• Poll workers acting or saying something inappropriate
• The casting of a fraudulent vote
• Inappropriate electioneering or campaigning too close to the polls

State law was violated because:

• His or her voter registration information was altered
• The polling place was not open (either on time or at all)
• Officials neglected to perform their duties
